It does work, and that’s the most important thing if you can get past the initial … More feeling of it being in the way. The stainless steel looks great, like it is part of the microwave. It blocks your view of the back burners and the controls for the oven if they’re on the back instead of at the front. Realistically that shouldn’t be a problem most of the time, since there’s a clock on the microwave and we use the front burners more. But there’s no getting around that it’s in the way, and I don’t know that there’s an alternative with an over the range microwave that doesn’t sacrifice exhaust ability.

Unfortunately I didn’t realize the microwave’s fan wasn’t powerful enough. Researching further, you’ll never find a microwave that’s as powerful as a hood fan. So I had two options -1. I got a "MICROVISOR Retractable Extension Hood - Standard Size - Stainless … More Steel", to install under a KitchenAid KMHC319EBS microwave, and I am glad I did.Just a couple of glitches with the hardware:A tiny screw for the magnets was missing in the package, so I had to go visit Home Depot, and buy a bunch of them in a package.Then, the screws to install the front to the microwave in the package are thicker than what fits this microwave. Fortunately, I happened to find two in my garage.It does improve the extraction of vapors by the exhaust fan, and looks good under this microwave.Now that it's installed, it occurs to me that they should also offer the metal side pieces shown in the fourth picture here, which could be attached with strong magnets (or screwed) to the outer side of the bars of the extension hood to help keep vapors from escaping.For my taste, a curved line, and round corners, instead of the triangular shape, and pointy corners of the one in the picture, would look better.If you come up with it, please let me know.Thanks!
