We purchased the retractable hood extension. The install took all of about 15 minutes with just minor adjustments. This thing is well engineered and the instructions and videos were clear and concise. It does exactly what it promises. Steam from boiling … read more pots on the front burners is now 90% captured by the hood fan. Before steam would flow up over the microwave and upper cabinets, to the extent that I would have to wipe down the microwave and cabinets with a towel. When not in use, the extension slides back under the microwave. If we want to use the under microwave light as a night light in the kitchen, we just slide the extension out to expose the light. Because our microwave is at the end of our cabinet run, without any wood framing, the extension hardware looked a little incomplete. We found a magnetic sheet product that we cut to fit the entire side of the microwave and extension, covering the exposed gaps in the hardware. If your microwave has cabinetry on both sides, you would not experience this problem. All in all, I am very VERY happy with this product. The order came in a very timely manner and was packaged extremely well. No dents or dings. - Horrible experience installing this hood. Partly due to the awkwardness in mounting this. At least 3 hands are needed. Two to hold this hood in place and one to screw in the screws. Huge failing with something that should be very simple. This feedback is coming from a person with above average mechanical aptitude. In the end, I’m no very pleased with the overall function, look and performance. The concept is good, but the one flaw in design of the exhaust vents being blocked if the hood is retracted is unfortunate.
Edit: After living with the visor and actually using it I now have a higher impression than what I initially wrote. Yes, I did find the installation to be more difficult than expected, but the results are good. Also, my statement of the exhaust vents being blocked while the hood is retracted is not accurate. Most of the vent filters are open and function well enough for this not to be an issue.

Tip; Cheap Amazon 5MM led lighting sticky tape on the bottom of the microvisor gives an awesome hidden light for the cooking area! -

Also, the retractable hood does NOT block the light on my Whirlpool microwave, so I can see the stovetop even with the hood retracted. This is a great addition for anyone wanting to use a microwave over the range.
Follow-up: This morning was the definitive test, as I cooked bacon on the front burner. For the first time, all the fumes went out the vent instead of depositing grease on the front of the microwave. Kudos to the microvisor hood! -

If you are cooking really greasy food, I feel it’s necessary to use a splatter screen over your frying pan. I am glad I purchased this, it’s helped keep my cabinets cleaner! -

I purchased the standard-sized removable version in stainless steel. If review was solely based on the hood itself it would be a definite 5. It is well-build and exceeds my expectations. Very easy to install, as well.
My only misgiving is based on … read more having a Samsung microwave with the grease filter access through a front-facing tray. I purchased the needed adaptor but that proved to not be esthetically pleasing. The visor sat awkwardly low and the gap between brackets (albeit needed for grease vent) leaves a gap that lets the range light through, which dramatizes the gap. When installed, it stops looking like a seamless part of the unit.
I wish the adapter included some sort of dummy plate that would fill the gap and make it somewhat look like a continuous piece. That would have perhaps helped. That said… I devised a way to convert the pop-out grease filter to a bottom one, allowing me to mount the unit without the Samsung adaptor.
I use the visor almost daily and it is performing exactly as described. -
I ordered a stainless steel one and its got rust on it, tried to contact microvisor and got crickets. But it does work well as advertised. Just looks like shit. -
Pros:
- The product itself works exactly as described. When extended, it does a pretty good job of exhausting the front half of my cooktop. Not perfect, but significantly better than it did prior to installing this. The front of my microwave no longer … read more is covered in condensation, which I know was a leading factor in the demise of my previous microwave/hood.
- It's well built, installs easily, and came with good instructions.
Cons:
- Expensive for what it is, which is essentially some bent metal pieces and some screws. Hats off to them, though, because I don't know of another item on the market that is equivalent to this without being built into the actual microwave/hood itself.
- For obvious reasons, you really need to have this extended any time you wish to exhaust your cooktop. When closed, it will block the vent under the microwave. I'm going to have to train myself to extend it, even when only using one of the back burners. Not a deal breaker.
- Probably my biggest issue is purely theoretical, but thought it was worth mentioning... it might not matter to you, but it did to me. When I was in the process of purchasing it from their website, it had a space available at checkout for "coupon code". Like many other people, I Googled to see if there were any active coupons that I could apply to my purchase. I tried all the various codes that came up and inevitably, every single one of them came up as "not a valid code". Except one... The one that did come up as a valid (but expired) code at checkout at the Microvisor website? "TRUMP". I find it odd that a company would advertise their political leanings like this, especially for an item that I would think tends to appeal more to people on the left-leaning end of things. Much like Tesla is now realizing, it's probably best to keep that stuff to yourself or you risk ostracizing a good portion of your target market. Worth sending back? I'll be honest... I seriously thought about whether to buy it. If they had a viable competitor, I probably would have bought from their competitor. In the end, my desire to properly address my kitchen exhaust outweighed my disapproval of the (theoretical) political leanings of the company. Do with that information what you will.
